May is more than just flowers and sunshine — it is a time to make a difference in your home, your neighborhood, and our environment by pledging to make every drop count.
At Conservation Pays, we believe that every small action adds up. This month, we are spotlighting simple, meaningful ways you can be part of the solution to conserve water in Broward County starting with your own backyard.
Your Better Yard Starts with You
You don’t need a green thumb to have a green yard! Spring is the perfect time to upgrade your landscaping with water-smart gardening tips from the EPA’s WaterSense® “Your Better Yard” initiative. Visit epa.gov/watersense/outdoors to explore:
- Native plants that thrive in South Florida’s climate with less watering
- Efficient irrigation systems that target roots and reduce runoff
- Smart watering schedules to avoid the midday heat and water waste
Your yard can be both beautiful and water-efficient, it all starts with smart choices.
May 4 – 10 Is Drinking Water Week
Join us in celebrating Drinking Water Week, May 4 -10, 2025, in partnership with the American Water Works Association (AWWA). This week is all about recognizing the essential role clean, safe drinking water plays in our daily lives — from your morning coffee to your post-workout refreshment. Take a moment to appreciate the people and systems behind your water and recommit to using it wisely.
The Toilet Rebate Program: Saving Water & Money
Did you know toilets account for nearly 30% of indoor water use? If your toilet is more than two decades old, it could be sending gallons of water (and dollars) down the drain. Through Conservation Pays, Broward County residents can receive a rebate of up to $125 for upgrading to a high-efficiency toilet. It’s one of the easiest and most impactful ways to conserve water at home. Click here to see if you qualify and apply today!
Shoutout to Our Water-Wise Community
To all the Broward County residents who have already made the switch, planted water-efficient landscapes, or joined our pledge – we see you, and we thank you! You are making a real difference for our region and inspiring others to do the same.
Let’s raise a glass (of H₂O!) to YOU for helping protect and preserve our most precious resource.
It is Never Too Late to Join In
If you haven’t joined the pledge yet, it’s never too late! This May, commit to making smart water choices in your home and yard — and encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same.
Take this opportunity to learn more about your local water system, share what you discover, and recommit to conservation. Every drop counts, and together, we can make a lasting impact.
