April is a reminder that protecting our water today means powering a stronger, more resilient community for tomorrow. At the Broward Water Partnership, we believe that water conservation starts at home. This month, we’re celebrating Water Conservation Month with simple, powerful actions that you can take to make a big impact.
Conserving at Home:
- Water Early in the Morning – Reduce evaporation and help your plants absorb water more effectively by watering before 10 AM.
- Check for Leaks Indoors & Out – A running toilet or a dripping spigot can waste thousands of gallons a year. Check for leaks regularly and replace with Watersense certified products, to save.
- Switch to Native or Drought-Resistant Plants – These plants thrive in South Florida’s climate and require far less water to stay beautiful, especially in the Dry Season (November to May)
- Follow Broward’s Watering Schedule – Using water only on your permitted days which helps reduce system strain and ensures fair use across the community. Learn more at Broward.org
Community Conservation:
- Waterway Clean‑Ups – Organize or join a local canal, river, or beach clean‑up to keep waterways clear.
- Rain Barrel Workshops – Teach neighbors how to collect and reuse rainwater for gardens and landscaping.
- Fix‑a‑Leak Community Day – Partner with volunteers or local plumbers to help residents check and repair leaks.
- School Poster or Art Contest – Engage students in creating water conservation artwork to spread awareness across the community.
Celebrate Water Conservation Month and Earth Day this April by taking charge of your water, to protect our future and prevent water shortage.
