March in Broward County brings warmer days and the promise of spring, making it the perfect time to reflect on how we use one of our most precious resources: water. As we embrace this month’s theme, Be a Water Hero: March Into Action, let’s explore practical steps you can take to conserve water, protect our environment, and make a meaningful difference in our community.
Join Us at Broward Water Matters Day
One of the best ways to learn about water conservation and become a water hero is by attending Broward Water Matters Day on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Tree Tops Park in Davie.
This event is perfect for the whole family and features fun, interactive educational displays and booths where you can learn about water conservation and sustainable practices from local experts. Broward residents can even take home a free tree to beautify their yard and contribute to a greener community. Food trucks and children’s activities will also be available.

6 Tips on How to Be a Water Hero at Home
1. Mindful Habits
Minor changes make a big impact! Remember to turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or washing dishes.
2. Efficient Fixtures
Upgrade to WaterSense-labeled faucets, showerheads, and toilets. Broward County residents can take advantage of rebates through the Conservation Pays program at ConservationPays.com.
3. Shorter Showers
Challenge your family to shorten showers by a minute or two. A “five-minute shower” rule can save hundreds of gallons of water each month.
4. Leak-Free Home
Leaky faucets, running toilets, and faulty sprinklers waste nearly 10,000 gallons of water yearly. Repair leaks quickly to save water and money.
5. Florida-Friendly Landscaping
Choose native plants that require less irrigation for a beautiful and water-wise yard. Outdoor water use is a major part of residential consumption.
6. Rainwater Harvesting
Install a rain barrel to collect water for outdoor use, like watering plants or cleaning outdoor surfaces. March’s light rains are ideal for starting.
The most important thing to remember is that water conservation is a shared responsibility, and each drop counts. In Broward County, water is essential for our daily lives, ecosystems, and vibrant economy. Yet, with increasing population growth and environmental challenges, conserving water is more critical than ever. This March let’s “march into action” and embrace our role as water heroes.
